This week’s vocational visit was held at Microanalysis Australia and hosted by Laurie and Mary Glossop and Rick and Debbie Hughes. This specialized business is the only commercial laboratory in the state offering material charactisation (particle) analysis using an electron microscope and a range of highly technical analytical equipment. Rick Hughes, the firms Principle Consultant delivered a presentation to the group explaining the diversity of their work and the technology they use to examine the size, shape and density of particles ranging from sediment dispersal and crystalline formations like Riebeckite and Crocidolite (forms of asbestos) to the grind size of chocolate which affects its adherence to ice cream and it texture.

The group enjoyed a banquet at Elies Tent with some uninhibited Rotarians being enticed to become the support act for the Belly Dancer. What a fun bunch we are!
