Club Committee Meeting Minutes

11 October, 2016

Each of the club committees met for discussion at the regular Tuesday morning club meeting on 11 October, 2016. The objective was for members to revisit the vision of the club for respective activities and summarise progress towards the clubs goal.

The meeting opened with the Treasurer announcing that the “High Tea” fund raising event netted over $13,000. With unsold items this amount increased to approximately $14,000. Items such as the bottle of Penfolds grange and the aboriginal painting which did not reach their reserve at the silent auction will be used at fundraising events later in the year.

Fundraising.

The main fund raising events during the past year have been the High Tea, hosting of club websites and collection at the Motorplex. It was suggested that it could be possible to a) maintain or increase income from the website hosting by addressing concerns of clubs who wished not to use the site, and, b) Target one charity for each Motorplex collection to improve enthusiasm for collection and assist promotion of the event. The collection dates could be promoted in local newspapers prior to the events.

Other fund collection techniques were discussed and will be pursued by the fundraising committee. One potential event includes a wine tasting during which the bottle of Penfolds Grange from the High Tea will be sold. The committee agreed that fundraising plans need refreshing each year.

Youth

The club will continue to support RYLA and RYPEN, and sponsor students to the national youth science forum. It will continue to support Balga High School. The Rotary Club of West Perth has also approached the RCWE to co-sponsor a student in the Rotary Youth Exchange program next year. The student is an Italian boy and a slot was requested for the April 2017 period. Geoff Ross will approach the RCWP for more details.

Community

The “adopt a spot” at Lake Claremont is going well and the final weeding for 2016 is timed for 30 October. Other community events that the committee will investigate further is the collection of food for Foodbank, assistance the showers for homeless and support of a national tree day.

International

The club sponsored RAWCS project to support the Maasai Education Fund in Kenya continues and external funds are being collected to support roofing at the Kamuka school. The MEF funds support two students to complete school and these are being closely monitored by John Boxall.

BeKids also collects funds through a RCWE established RAWCS project for activities in the slums of Nairobi.

The Early Act club at Rosalie Primary School is encouraged to collect funds to buy one Rotary Shelter Box per annum.

RCWE funds have been made available through a RAWCS project to install a water well at an orphanage in East Timor. Constant delays to its installation has led the club to request the development of another project. The Club Visioning exercise in August 2016 suggested that this be developed in partnership with another club. The Rotary Club of Subiaco will be approached in the first instance.

Club Service

The club service committee agreed that the Warehouse Café venue was good and that the club should continue meeting there. The high quality of the speakers will be maintained and four social events continue to be arranged each year. The recent visit to the Army Museum was considered a success. The club website/newsletter should remain as the main source for information. There may be ways to improve the website and these will be investigated.
