Hello Club Members
This is my inaugural President's Message for the year 2017/18 after becoming President of our Rotary Club at the Western Endeavour Changeover Dinner held on the 25th June 2017 at the Hillarys Yacht Club.
I wish to sincerely thank PP David Fisher for his efforts over the past year as President and keeping the Club in good shape. David has had the extra challenge during this time with changing jobs and now being based in Brisbane. I am sure David will attend some of our meetings in the coming year when he is back in Perth from time to time.
Also a thank you to the people who helped me at Changeover, especially Bruce Fielding as MC and Geoff Ross presenting the Toast/Roast of PP David. We have an experienced Board this year and will be looking to have Director Nominees for next year soon.
Congratulations to Bruce Fielding on receiving a Paul Harris Fellow Award at the Changeover Dinner which was very well deserved for his many roles at the Club over 15 years and twice as President. The Paul Harris Fellow also recognised Bruce's tremendous commitments to the Hawaiian Ride for Youth where he was Chairman for this year's ride which covered 4 routes. The massive sponsorship of the ride provides funds for the group Youth Focus, an independent Western Australian not-for-profit group working to stop youth suicide.
I attended the District 9455 Changoever Dinner on Saturday night with several other Club Members where our very own Bruce Dufty was awarded another Paul Harris Fellow in recognition of his time and outstanding dedication to the Rotary Aboriginal Reference Group. Bruce has now received 4 Paul Harris Fellow Awards while in Rotary and this makes him a 3 sapphire Paul Harris Fellow. Congratulations Bruce Dufty.
Our Club now has many Paul Harris Fellows, John Boxall, Laurie Dender, Judy Dinnison, Bruce Dufty (3 sapphires), Michael Lee (1 sapphire), Wendy Lee and Jane O'Leary. It is wonderful to see so many dedicated people who are Making a Difference.
This year's Rotary International President is Australian Ian Riseley and he has selected his theme for the year as Rotary: Making a Difference. I am sure our Club will.
